We went boating on the lake yesterday for almost five hours. It was a beautiful day, we found a little beach to play on and let the kids swim around and build castles with buckets and shovels. Good times. I love that boating makes our whole family happy. All of us, at the same time!
I decided to try to be productive and go for a swim while the kids were building a sandcastle with dad. There are these buoyant signs near the beach telling boaters to slow down since they are approaching a swimming area, so I made it a goal to swim out and back to one of the signs 4 times. I made this decision while watching these uber-fit triathletes swimming almost four times that distance and got inspired, or jealous of their uber-fitness. ANYWAY, I took my first lap and boy, I am so out of shape in the realm of swimming. If you aren’t a swimmer, then you should give it a try, but be warned, it is a lot of work. The beautiful thing about swimming is that it doesn’t take long to build up your stamina in the water, you just have to swim once a week or so to get stronger. Plus have you seen swimmer bodies? Boo-yah!
Swimming is wonderful for total body strength, you will use your entire body all at the same time. Swimming helps you tone your body and is low-impact on your joints, too. Check out all the wonderful things WedMD has to say about swimming. The only problem with swimming, for me, is that I don’t have a lot of options for swimming in the winter. There is an indoor pool about 20 minutes from my house, which isn’t so bad. I just always choose the sport I can start by walking up my driveway. Lazy much?
